The crew of ‘Barney’ 0-6-0 No 17699 add to the interest of this photograph. The engine, unquestionably of Drummond parentage was built for the Highland Railway by Dugald’s brother Peter, though there’s little doubt from where came the original design-concept and drawings -Dugald. The houses in the background were occupied exclusively by Corkerhill railwaymen and their families -it was a genuine railway village built by the G&SWR in the 1880s.
