57698 started life in 1900 as HR no: 139. Under LMS ownership it became no: 17698. It appears that the last original HR boiler that it carried was believed to have been replaced in 1940/1, with a CR/LMS N34 boiler.
12 of this class were built and all went on to become under LMS ownership.
7 went into BR ownership, but only, 57695, 57697 and 57698 carried BR numbers.
57698 only lasted until 12/1951.
Only 57695 lasted longer, until 1/1952! "
