One of the initial series of " Britannias " sent to Stratford and then Norwich from being newly constructed in April of 1951 70006 " Robert Burns " and her sisters transformed services between Liverpool Street and North Norfolk until they were all displaced by the imvading Diesels in late 1961 .
An ill conceived and futile bid to find Norwich's displaced " Britannias " work at the frieght Motive Power Depot at March in Cambridgeshire resulted in most of the class being left there in the open , stored out of use and with insufficient or no suitable work for them , although seven more fortunate members of the class which were moved to Immingham were favourably received and put to good use there .
Saved from being condemned by wholesale transfer to the Midland Region during 1963 a number were found to be in poor mechanical condition which required immediate overhauls at Crewe before they entered service on Midland Region metals , and 70006 is seen here at Crewe undergoing a Heavy Overhaul some six months after having been transferred from March to Carlisle Kingmoor in December 1963
