48554 1950s Warrington

48554 1950s Warrington

Southbound leaving Warrington Bank Quay with 'Arpley 2nd Sidings' to the right. The bracket signal on the Down Slow is not quite pure LNWR, the calling on arms are LMS or LMR upper quadrants unlike the Down Fast which is pure lower quadrant LNWR including the calling on arms, note the ladder in front of the post, a feature of all LNWR signals. The bracket to the right on the Down Chester line is however of later LMS tubular post design. There are two lovely steam cranes standing outside the Aluminium works. 48554 was built at Darlington in June 1945 and loaned to the L&NER until 1947. At the date of this picture it was allocated to Widnes where it stayed until May 1962; it was withdrawn in August 1966.
