D805 Benbow is on the sea wall between Dawlish and Dawlish Warren, Note Black Bridge is in the distance with the 11.20am Kingswear-Paddington in 1959.


Peter Kerslake says "The building on the cliff top was a wartime observation post providing when manned a visible warning of enemy surface ships such as the fast German 'E' torpedo boats posing a threat to this vital but vulnerable stretch of line in the last war. This structure does not appear in many photographs so I think that it must have been demolished by the early 1960s".
