D326 1964-09-12 Harlestone Firs

Harlestone Firs is on the north west outskirts of Northampton. Shortly after the new electric catenary was energised, BR 'Class 40' D326 heads an up 4G33 working towards Northampton in September 1964. Note the semaphore signal bracket is now carrying colour lights.

David J Hayes adds "A splendid study of a service headed by the "Great Train Robbery" loco. Although I stand to be corrected, if this service is indeed heading Up towards London, then I think the headcode could well be wrong, as the letter "G" would usually apply to a service heading for the Birmingham division of the network and it does not appear to be a class 4 train".
