7823 1963c Barmouth
Tyseley's 7823 Hook Norton Manor, a former Cornish engine allocated to Truro Depot, has arrived at Barmouth with a excursion from the Midlands. It was at the Birmingham shed from November 1962 until withdrawn in July 1964.
7823 was one of the last ten of the class built as new locomotives at Swindon in 1950, the earlier twenty Manors having been built in 1938 and 1939 using wheels and motion from condemned "4300" class 2-6-0s. The early examples proved to be indifferent in performance, however, and it was not until tests conducted in 1951 with 7818 Granville Manor and consequential draughting improvements that the true potential of the class was realised. In the following years those working on the Cambrian were the mainstay of passenger workings until the early 1960s .
