7823 1962 Machynlleth

7823 1962 Machynlleth

Was not allocated to 84E tyseley until Nov 62 so more likely to be 1963

Situated at the eastern end of the Cambrian network on the main line between Dovey Junction to the west and Welshpool to the east Machynlleth boasted a large Motive Power Depot , with an equally important sub shed at Aberystwyth , with Machynlleth being the home for the majority of the little " Dukedogs " , so long associated with the Cambrian lines during their working lives .
A work stained 7823 " Hook Norton Manor " is seen here at the station with a fine water tank and associated pipework on the right .
7823 had come on to the Cambrian system in lthe late ' fifties from her previous home way down at Truro , and was to end her days in 1964 from Tyseley Depot .
Although not saved for preservation , her name today lives on in tribute to the 40 Commando Royal Marines Training Base at Norton Manor , adjacent to the West Somerset Railway , the locomotive's nameplates sometimes being carried by one of the West Somerset Railway's " Manor " class operating on that Heritage line.
