7803 1963-12-31 Welshpool

A fine image of 7803 ," Barcote Manor " , a long term resident at Machynlleth and its important sub shed at Aberystwyth as she sets off from Welshpool in fine external condition as was the custom during the heyday of the " Manors " working the Cambrian during the ' fifties and ' sixties .
With Aberystwyth being the end of the line it was at that large sub shed that the " Manors " were most likely to be found , working to and from Shrewsbury , and the renowned Shedmaster there was Mr. Danny Rowlands who ensured that his " Manors " always looked their best and were resplendent with white painted buffers , smokebox door fittings and front couplings , made possible by his being kept supplied with regular supplie of the stuff courtesy of the District Superintendent !.
The early " Manors " allocated to the Cambrian had been the first 4-6-0 locomotive design to work that network and had replaced the " 4300 " class on the heavier rosters , and they lasted until the early ' sixties when they were themselves replaced by Standard Classs Fours.
