Up CCE on one of those miserable Welsh days !Despite it being a damp and misty day 7803 " Barcote Manor " has been well turned out as was the custom at her home shed of Machynlleth and the sub shed at Aberystwyth , even to the painted smokebox door straps and numberplate together with her bufferheads , all of which were characteristics of that Depot's locomotives .Introduced on to the Cambrian network in the early ' fifties the " Manors " had been the largest locomotives permitted to work the Cambrian lines , replacing the aged " Dukedogs " , so long associated with that area , and a number of " Manors " survived right through to the final months of steam , with 7829 " Ramsbury Manor " being the last of her class and remaining in service until 1965 .Machynlleth Depot was the parent shed to its large and important sub shed at Aberystwyth, the home of most of the Cambrian " Manors " at this period in time , their allocation of the class working regularly as far north as Shrewsbury on principal passenger rosters in addition to duties which took them southwards down to Carmarthen before they were replaced in the late ' fifties by a number of Standard class designs.
