7802 1961-08 near Shrewsbury

On the 3.48pm Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth. The track of the Shropshire and Montgommery Railway, then under military control is to the right.A delightful overhead portrait of Machynlleth allocated 7802 " Bradley Manor " turned out as usual in fine style by Shedmaster Mr. Danny Rowlands with his white painted smokebox door fitments and buffer heads evident for all to see .The " Manors " were for so long associated with such workings northwards to Shrewsbury on the former Cambrian system as well as taking Carmarthen turns down from Aberystwyth , with a few additional members of the class coming to join them from Laira and Newton Abbot when their piloting duties over the South Devon banks ended.Following her early years allocated to Old Oak Common and Bristol 7802 was much later destined to be the last of her class to work the Cambrian system , being withdrawn from Shrewsbury in November of 1965 but happily saved for preservation from Woodhams at Barry in late 1979 by what is now the Severn Valley Railway.
