7802 1959-05-15 Aberystwyth
A very clean Manor!
What an absolutely stunning portrait of Aberystwyth's " Pride and Joy " with their long standing resident 7802 " Bradley Manor " looking resplendent in the condition for which that Depot was renowned when it came to their well turned out locomotives , with painted and polished bufferheads , coupling and smokebox door fittings as seen here being a feature of their Top Link engines .
The young cleaners are justly proud of their work , and the driver and his fireman appear ready to work the " Cambrian Coast Express " away to Shrewsbury from where , later this same afternoon , they will come back home here to Aberystwyth on the southward " Cambrian " following a quick turn round at Shrewsbury .
My 1956 shedbook shows that Aberystwyth had just three " Manors " on its books at that time , but its complement was to be increased in the late ' fifties and early ' sixties when displaced " Manors " from the Westcountry were reallocated there to serve the needs of this important Depot .
