7803 1963c Welshpool
Carrying a 6F Machynlleth plate which dates this picture after September 1963. 7803 Barcote Manor and the other Machynlleth 'Manors', were usually based at the Aberystwyth sub-shed, one of the largest sub-sheds on the Western Region. This view shows how the shed paid special attention to the engines used on the 'Cambrian Coast Express' with the smokebox door numberplate, centre boss and straps and even the bufferheads all given the "white paint treatment". The importance of Welshpool as a junction is clear from the station board which indicates the need for passengers bound for Shrewsbury, Stafford, Birmingham and London all needing to change trains there!
