44740 1960s Manchester Exchange
Fitted with AWS in June 1960 and withdrawn in April 1963
Apart from the first month after emerging from Crewe Works in May 1948, 44740 was allocated to Llandudno Junction until withdrawn in April 1963, the first of the Caprottis to be taken out of service. This picture was taken after it had been fitted with AWS in June 1960. The engine is in immaculate condition, the tender needs a little more work!
