58856 1955-06 Middleton Top

The fascinating and unique Cromford & High Peak Railway in Derbyshire was a remarkable survivor of some of the most ancient railway operating practices in Britain. A quite incredible and unlikely series of locomotives were drafted in to operate the system over the years. Here is ex-North London Railway Park '75' (LMS '2F') class 0-6-0 Tank No. 58856 at Middleton Top in June 1955. It was built at Bow Works in March 1896 as NLR No. 16 and was withdrawn in October 1957. Its 'shedplate' leaves something to be desired!
