46223 1958-07 Beattock
LMS Coronation 4-6-2 No 46223 Princess Alice Saturday night down sleeping car express climbing Beattock near Greskine early on Sunday in July 1958.
Andrew Vines says "I have previously done some research to try and pin down the details of this all time classic, which I'm so glad you have included here. The train formation is very close to, but does not quite match the 11.30pm (SO) Euston-Glasgow, but the restaurant car added at Carlisle is the giveaway, just visible near the rear. Weather records strongly indicate this is 6th July as no other July Sundays in 1958 are likely to have produced these clear, sunny conditions. If the train was on time, it would have come storming past the photographer just before 7.30am, which the sun angle seems to indicate for this most awe-inspiring spectacle. "
