46223 1950s Beattock

46223 1950s Beattock

LMS Coronation 4-6-2 No 46223 Princess Alice with an express with banker climbing Beattock in the 1950s.
I think this is on Beattock near Greskine. The train reporting No. seems to be 'W5' which was the 00.20 Euston to Glasgow sleeper so this would be about 8 in the morning. The service was notable for having 2 dining cars inserted into the middle of the train at Carlisle for the purpose of serving breakfast and to ensure passengers in the sleeping cars did not have a lengthy walk to the dining cars! As all the coaches are in BR maroon it suggests this was taken in the late 50's
