Still with her sloping smokebox top, a reminder of her streamlined days, ex-LMS Stanier 'Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 46227 'Duchess of Devonshire' passes Northampton No.1 Box with the Down 'Royal Scot'. It is approaching Northampton Castle Station from the Blisworth direction, past the loco sheds and then along the lines shared from Bedford and Wellingborough to Castle, and not from Roade which is far more common for a diversion. The Roade line is to the right of the photo. 46227 was built at Crewe in June 1938 as LMS No. 6227 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1962.
