6226 1938-07-02 Ashton
Photographer Les Hanson was a little closer (a LOT closer actually!) to the line than his normal preferred vantage points atop the embankments at Ashton in Northamptonshire. The result as can be seen, was this dynamic view of crimson lake liveried 'Duchess of Norfolk' racing north in July 1938. Built at Crewe in May 1936 she was withdrawn in Oct 1964 as BR No. 46226. Note her 'winged' lamps a design reserved for the sole use of the 'Coronation' class in their streamlined guise.
