12258 1935 Preston

Ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Rly. Aspinall '27' (LMS '3F') class 0-6-0 No. 12258. Built at Horwich in October 1894 as L&YR No. 410 and withdrawn in August 1954 as BR No. 52258.

The fine buildings of Lancahire County Hall in Fishergate, Preston dominate the skyline as 12258 is carrying out station pilot duties in 1935. Although classified '3F' by the LMS the Aspinall '27s' could often be seen on passenger turns singly or in pairs. An indication of their value was that most of the class survived into BR ownership and several made it into the 1960s.
