The 3P 2-6-2T was the least successful of William Stanier's designs and not surprisingly they were all withdrawn by the end of 1962. On 12th March 1961 two of Leicester Great Central's members of the class were in store, No.40092 which was withdrawn in May and No.40167 which remained in stock until October.
