Ex-LNER Gresley 'A4' class 4-6-2 No. 60009 'Union of South Africa'. Built at Doncaster in June 1937 as LNER No. 4488, withdrawn in June 1966 and preserved.

A couple of seagulls are wheeling by in July 1965 as 60009 prepares to depart from Perth. Fortunately, a 1962 decision by the Scottish Region of BR to re-deploy the A4s on the tightly-timed 3-hour expresses Aberdeen and Glasgow via Perth gave many of the class a new lease of life. This was truly the 'Indian Summer' for the remaining A4s.
