60055 1949-10 Cambridge

60055 1949-10 Cambridge

Ex-LNER Gresley 'A3' class 4-6-2 No. 60055 'Woolwinder'. Built at Doncaster in December 1924 as LNER No. 2554 and withdrawn in September 1961.

'Woolwinder' appears to have has a 'rough shunt' judging by her bent bufferbeam. It hardly seems to be hampering progress as she departs from Cambridge in October 1949, wearing LNER-style apple green livery.

Peter Kerslake adds "You didn't see many of these at Cambridge. Leaving the western side of the station and heading towards the East Coast main line at its junction at Hitchin I suspect that 60055 is on a post overhaul "Running In" secondary passenger duty to Kings Cross as those were the workings which would bring a Gresley Pacific to Cambridge well into the late 1950s".
