46254 1963-07-06 Preston
Ex-LMS Stanier 'Coronation' class 4-6-2 No. 46254 'City of Stoke-on-Trent'. Built at Crewe in September 1946 as LMS No. 6254 and withdrawn in October 1964.
Looming above the down 'Lakes Express' with 46254 in charge in July 1963 is the unmistakeable St. Walburge's Roman Catholic Church of 1854. It was designed by Joseph Hansom whose own connection to transport is that he also invented the Hansom cab!
