61232 1964-08-23 Immingham MPD

61232 1964-08-23 Immingham MPD

Ex-LNER Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0 No. 61232. Built by NBL of Glasgow in September 1947 as LNER No. 1232 and withdrawn in February 1966.

The former Great Central Railway's Immingham MPD in Lincolnshire was not high on the list of destinations for railway photographers. It was awkward to get to as a destination and being a freight only depot, did not attract the 'glamour' classes! In August 1964, the yard in which 61232 languishes is dreadfully unkempt and such a working environment would never be allowed today. Fortunately for posterity, Arthur Hall captured this gritty scene before February 1966 when it closed to steam.
