Ex-LNER Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0 No. 61170. Built by Vulcan Foundry of Newton-le-Willows in June 1947 as LNER No. 1170 and withdrawn in July 1962.

The Sheffield to Manchester electrification was finally completed in 1955 but erection of the the catenary masts had been started before WW2. Steam haulage survived on the route well into the 1950s and seen here at Barnsley Jct, Penistone in June 1953 is 61170 with a estbound train for Sheffield.
