Ex-LNER Thompson 'A2/2' class 4-6-2 No. 60502 'Earl Marischal'. Built at Doncaster in June 1944 as LNER No. 502 and withdrawn in July 1961. The Edward Thompson rebuilds of Nigel Gresley's P2s Mikados arouse very partisan approval or dissent! Their rakish looks and odd wheel and cylinder spacing were certainly distinctive when allied to their small, probably ineffective, smoke deflectors. 'Earl Marischal' looks smart enough at York MPD in April 1951. I like Marmite but...
