75021 1967-04-03 Westbury

BR Standard class 4MT 2-6-0 No 75021 reaches the summit at Westbury on the single line section of the Cambrian between Cruckmeole Junction (west of Shrewsbury) and Welshpool with the last 'Cambrian Coast Express' from Paddington to Aberystwyth on March 4, 1967.

Peter Kerslake says "I was at Shrewsbury on this day and the vast crowds there were also turned out to see the two Ian Allan specials marking the end of through passenger services between Paddington and Birkenhead hauled by "Clun Castle" and "Pendennis Castle".
75021 took over the final down Cambrian Coast Express from a diesel which had worked it from Paddington and I recorded 75021 heading away from Shrewsbury that afternoon to Aberstwyth. At Welshpool later that afternoon a "917" Reporting Number was affixed to 75021's smokebox door, and the wreath it is carrying was then moved to the engine's front drawbar below the headboard."
