75024 1963-04-19 Barmouth
BR 4MT 4-6-0 No 75024 crosses Barmouth bridge with a train for Ruabon on April 19, 1963.
Peter Kerslake says "75024 sets down a smokescreen as it heads aross the renowned Barmouth Viaduct with Barmouth itself visible in the background. The two ladies heading across the viaduct over the Mawddach estuary have a long way to go before reaching the far shore by way of the pedestrian pathway which ran across the bridge from Panorama Walk above the former lifeboat station behind them.
Built of Baltic timber the bridge very nearly met its end in the early 1980s when a form of marine worm attacked the timbers, but a very costly restoration was carried out to rectify the damage and thankfully this magnificent structure survives today.
The Standard Class 4-6-0s were in use on the Cambrian network during the last years of steam operations until they were displaced by Diesel power in early 1965 with a number then being transferred to the Midland Region for banking duties on the West Coast main line acoss the Northern Fells."
