London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Stroudley 'G' class 2-2-2 No. 334 'Petworth'. Built at Brighton in July 1881 and withdrawn in November 1908.

The glories of Stroudley's "improved engine green" livery did not escape Victorian and Edwardian photographers. Brighton locomotives of the era are widely recorded on film. Proving this point is 'Petworth' seen in the 1890s at East Croydon. The actual colour was a golden yellow ochre and it did not wear well on hot surfaces and was thus expensive to maintain and was phased out, replaced by 'umber' from 1905. p.s. Petworth is a small town in West Sussex.
