Ex-London & South Western Railway Urie 'S15' class 4-6-0 No. 30513. Built at Eastleigh in March 1921 as L&SWR No. 513 and withdrawn in March 1963.
Taking Robert Urie's basic design that was already an excellent locomotive, Richard Maunsell made a number of upgrades and modifications to the 'S15s' over a thirteen year period that made them an even better machine. Pictured here at Feltham MPD is 30513 in October 1956. Nicknamed by crews "Goods Arthurs", they were primarily used for freight haulage but were also very capable passenger engines. It is a fitting tribute that no less than seven have been preserved and are either operational or under restoration.
