Ex-Southern Railway Maunsell 'Lord Nelson' class 4-6-0 No. 30865 'Sir John Hawkins'. Built at Eastleigh in November 1929 as SR No. 865 and withdrawn in May 1961.

Much attention is being lavished upon sealord 'Sir John Hawkins' in March 1961 at Eastleigh MPD. The locomotive looks to be in decent condition but withdrawal would come within two months. Sir John himself had been withdrawn rather earlier in 1595 at the age of 63. He was Vice-Admiral during the 1588 defeat of the Spanish Armada and was knighted for gallantry.
