The history of the 71 William Adams' '415' class of Atlantic (4-4-2) Radial Tanks built 1882-5 for the L&SWR is a long and involved one! It was entirely due to their light axle loading which made them suitable for working the Lyme Regis branch that three survived into the BR era outliving their classmates by over 50 years! 30584 in superb ex-works condition at Eastleigh MPD in August 1954. Sister engine 30583, has survived into preservation.
