60006 1953-07 Peterborough North

On a dull day in July 1953 the down ‘Northumbrian’ enters Peterborough behind Kings Cross A4 No 60006 ‘Sir Ralph Wedgwood’. This train left the capital at 12.18pm making its way north with stops at Grantham, York, Darlington and Durham; terminating at Newcastle. This engine, built in January 1938 as No 4466 ‘Herring Gull’ was renamed in January 1944, receiving the name from the unfortunate No 4469 which was hit and destroyed by a German bomb at York Shed in April 1942.
