1336 1953-05-09 Andoversford
Working Gloucester Railway Society's M&SWJR Outing
Peter Kerslake says "A splendid colour image of 1336 on the Gloucestershire Railway Society Special of the 9th May, 1953, looking her very best here at Andoversford on what looks to be a newly laid and lengthy section of track, the Special running from Swindon to Andover and back to Swindon this day.
After spending from early in 1926 until March of 1952 as a Reading shedded representative of this former Midland and South Western Junction class little 1336 went into Swindon Works Stock Shed for storage whilst her fate was decided with perhaps long term preservation being intended, being taken out for working Enthusiasts' Specials as seen here during 1953.
A return to the Stock Shed followed this day's outing and with no prospects of preservation sadly she was cut up, probably within Swindon Works infamous "C" Shop in May of 1954.
Ever with a mind of saving materials the tenders from five of earlier condemned members of this class were converted by the Great Western Railway into mobile water carries in the 1930's."
