1465 1951-05-14 Barmouth

GWR 14XX No 1465 at Barmouth South with the auto train for Dolgelley on May 14, 1951.
Peter Kerslake says "It could be bleak at Barmouth in the winter months but the large canopy on the "Up" platform afforded protection for passengers although those waiting on the "Down" side had a much simpler affair but still had a fair degree of protection from the elements blowing in from Barmouth Bay.
1465 is on the main line and not, as was usual for Dolgellau shuttle service, in the "Excursion" bay platform. The engine has a box on the buffer beam which held the "Push and Pull" equipment necessary for Auto Train workings such as this.
The water column and its accompanying "Devil" necesssary to avoid the supply freezing, are on the platform to the right of 1465."
