69119 1952-08-24 Hull Springhead MPD
The ill-fated Hull & Barnsley Railway was to be absorbed into the North Eastern Railway in 1922 and thence into the LNER in 1923. After that, it was a long downhill slide into virtual complete closure and scrapping of it's locomotives. Only one class survived to come into BR ownership, the subject of this August 1952 photograph. At its spiritual home of Hull Springhead MPD, Matthew Stirling 'F3' (LNER 'N13') No. 69119 is seeing out its final years and was the penultimate H&BR locomotive still in service when withdrawn. 69119 was built by Hawthorn Leslie & Co. in March 1914 as H&BR No. 156 and was withdrawn in July 1955.
