North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0 No. 2020. Built at Gateshead in December 1899 and withdrawn in February 1956 as BR No. 62349.

The magnificent signal gantries that once guided trains at the south end of York Station are well captured in this fine period photograph. 2020 with a very smart rake of coaches, is heading south away from the station circa 1910 and will shortly pass under the Holgate Road girder bridge.
