North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0. Built at Gateshead in Dec. 1900 and withdrawn in Oct. 1956 as BR No. 62360. Lincoln Cathedral is the marvellous backdrop to this period scene at the station in 1923. North Eastern Railway 2101 is receiving some lubrication checks by its driver and a Great Northern Railway Ivatt 4-4-2 Tank sneaks into view on the right. The pre-grouping activity in Lincoln was amazing, with MS&LR, LD&ECR, NER, GNR, GER and GCR locomotives appearing regularly. Holiday excursions to the Lincolnshire coast might also bring L&NWR and L&YR types to be added to this diverse list! Are there more?
