1541 1924 York

Ex-North Eastern Railway T.W.Worsdell 'F1' (LNER 'D22') class 4-4-0 No. 1521. Built at Gateshead in Dec. 1890 as a class 'F' compound, converted to class 'F1' simple in June 1905 and withdrawn in September 1934 as LNER No. 1541. The very elegant North Eastern Railway 'F' class were built as compounds. His successor and younger brother Wilson Worsdell converted them all to simples to minimise maintenance and the change had little or no detrimental effect! Here is very smart 1521 at the south end of York Station c.1924. A penny for the driver's thoughts!
