4072 1920s Old Oak Common
GWR Star class 4-6-0 No 4072 Tresco Abbey at Old Oak Common shed in the early 1920s. We believe bogie brakes all disappeared by 1924.
Peter Kerslake says "A very early view of 4072 "Tresco Abbey" at Old Oak Common, her first home from being newly built in February of 1922, the very last "Star" to come from Swindon and the last of the final batch of twelve, all turned out in an austerity livery with cast ion chimneys and plain splashers.
It was at Old Oak Common that the "Stars" were understandably allocated in their early years although a limited number were also to be found at Wolverhampton, Exeter, Newton Abbot and Laira and it was not until the late 'twenties that they began to be dispersed to such Depots as Landore in South Wales and to Worcester and Bristol.
Rebuilt as a "Castle" in March of 1938 "Tresco Abbey" became 5092 and in 1956 was again to be found allocated to her original home at Old Oak Common."
