4071 1937-08-20 Weston-super-Mare

GWR Star class 4-6-0 No 4071 Cleeve Abbey waits in Weston-super-Mare station with a stopping train on August 20, 1937.

Peter Kerslake says "Entering service from being newly built at Swindon in February of 1923 and allocated initially to Old Oak Common 4071 "Cleeve Abbey" is looking her best here at Weston super Mare in August of 1937, working a local passenger turn with just a single lamp in position.
By this later period in the lifetime of the "Stars" the class were to be found allocated to Depots as far afield as Wolverhampton in the north to Swansea's Landore in South Wales and Newton Abbot in the far west, with Bristol having no less than twelve.
Rebuilt as a "Castle" in December of 1938 and renumbered 5091 "Cleeve Abbey" in her rebuilt form saw service allocated to Chester in 1956."
