4005 1920s Old Oak Common
GWR Star 4-6-0 No 4005 Polar Star at Old Oak Common shed in c1925.
Peter Kerslake says "A fine portrait of 4005 "Polar Star" at Old Oak Common in the 1920's, the engine having been built at Swindon in February 1907.
In 1922 this "Star" was housed at Plymouth's Laira depot engaged on working the heavily loaded passenger workings to and back from Paddington, duties upon which Laira's "Stars" were the mainstay until the larger and more powerful "Castles" entered service just a couple of years later, relegating many of the "Stars" to less demanding duties.
4005 was withdrawn in November of 1934 from here at Old Oak Common."
