NER 216 1885 Scarborough

NER 216 1885 Scarborough

North Eastern Railway Fletcher '213' class 2-4-0 No. 216. Built By E.B.Wilson of Leeds in 1853 costing £2375 - BIG money in those days. it was renumbered to 1821 in 1886 and withdrawn in 1896.

A fascinating 1885 glimpse of a very early North Eastern Railway locomotive type at Platform 4 in Scarborough Station. 216 one of four in the class appears to be in largely original condition except for a curious extra safety valve behind its chimney and two whistles fitted. Altogether a very solid looking beastie!
