NER 222 1900s Crossgates Cutting Leeds

NER 222 1900s Crossgates Cutting Leeds

North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'G' class 4-4-0 No. 222. Built at Darlington in June 1901 and withdrawn in Dec. 1930. Old, faded prints can yield some fine images as witnessed by this terrific Edwardian railway scene in the cutting at Cross Gates on the northern outskirts of Leeds. The photograph was taken from Austhorpe Road bridge and 222 is heading towards York via Garforth and Church Fenton. The lines to the right are the long-closed (1964) route to Harrogate via Wetherby.
