NER 1763 1895 Whitby MPD

NER 1763 1895 Whitby MPD

North Eastern Railway Fletcher '577' class 0-6-0 Saddletank No. 1763. Built in 1877 as NER No. 577, re-numbered twice and withdrawn in 1903 as NER No. 2262. The tide is out in Whitby harbour and the far shore has barely changed in over 120 years. However, the near shore (where the engine shed yard had once been) is unrecognisable. 1763 is one of the rock solid double-framed saddletanks that had been rebuilt from tender engines. 1763's duties were on the Pickering to Whitby route, now preserved as the NYMR between Pickering and Grosmont.
