Up freight train passing through Newport High Street station, view SW, towards Cardiff. Sixty years ago and earlier, trains like this were passing through Newport constantly. This Class F train is headed by an original Churchward '28xx' 2-8-0 (No. 2818, built 12/05). This particular example of a '28xx' is preserved at the National Railway Museum, its selection for the national collection being due to being one of the last not re-built with outside steam pipes. It is running without a shed plate but is allocated to 87A Neath (Court Sart) moving there from Ebbw Junction in May. It would be called to Swindon and withdrawn in early November.
