It is hard to be certain of the date for this fine GNR 'official' view of the famous Crimpsall shops at Doncaster Works, but probably in the 1910s. At least eight locomotives are receiving attention with GNR Ivatt 'D3' No. 1345 hoisted aloft by the Craven Brothers of Manchester overhead crane that had been installed in 1901. 1345 was built at Doncaster in Dec. 1898 and was withdrawn in Jan. 1949 still bearing its 1946 number as LNER No. 2137.
