This lovely portrait of Great Northern Railway Patrick Stirling '766' (LNER 'G1') 0-4-4 Tank No. 829 was captured at Hornsey MPD circa 1900. These locomotives were arguably the foreunners of their Ivatt and Gresley derivatives, the N1 and N2s that served the capital (and beyond) so well for the next half a century. No. 829 was built at Doncaster in Apr. 1891 it was rebuilt in Dec. 1915 with a 4ft. 5in. domed boiler and was withdrawn in June 1921.
