NBR 1009 1880s Perth (NBR) MPD

NBR 1009 1880s Perth (NBR) MPD

North British Railway 2-2-2 No. 1009. This much rebuilt 'Single' began as a Crampton-designed 2-2-2-0 built by E.B. Wilson of Leeds in 1849. It was rebuilt by Stephenson & Co. in 1855 as a 2-2-0 and further rebuilt three times as a 2-2-2 in 1864, 1867 and (finally!) as seen here in 1877.

This amazing survivor (that must have been highly thought of) was withdrawn in 1907. This portrait, from circa 1880 is at Perth's NBR shed. Note the brake between the driving wheel and trailing bogie.
